Hey guys! Long time, no I see…I’m sorry about that! Life went from chill to hectic when I realized that I could go ahead and start grad school in the fall, if I could get my applications turned in on time! And now we’ve just started finals week, so here’s to lots of prayers and late nights…
I’d been thinking about doing a Whole30 for a while now (if you don’t know what a Whole30, check this website out!). Basically, it’s a much stricter than Paleo diet, made to last for 30 days. Once the 30 days are over, your body has “reset” itself. You’re not supposed to feel as many sugar cravings (definitely needed for this girl!), and most people feel so much better at the end that they don’t want to go back to their old eating habits!
So I started looking into the program about a month ago. After doing some research, I decided to try it, but with a different view. I wanted to dedicate this into more of a fast for God, in about the same way that those who do the Daniel Fast do.
“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.” –1 Corinthians 3: 16-17 (NIV)
I think in our daily lives, we forget verses like these. Yes, it covers a lot of things, but food isn’t one we typically associate with this verse. However, if you constantly give in to unhealthy food cravings, like I would do with Cokes, or even just over-indulge in what are considered “healthy foods”, you are destroying God’s temple.
“Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things.” –Philippians 3: 19 (NIV)
We must break free of earthly cravings and habits in order to live a Godly life. I know I have a long way to go, and you may too. But with God, nothing is impossible!
If anyone wants to join me on the Whole30 journey, let me know! I’d love to hear how you’re doing and give you some encouragement along the way 🙂
