Whole30 – From a Different Perspective

Hey guys! Long time, no I see…I’m sorry about that! Life went from chill to hectic when I realized that I could go ahead and start grad school in the fall, if I could get my applications turned in on time! And now we’ve just started finals week, so here’s to lots of prayers and late nights…

Whole30-Different-Perspective

I’d been thinking about doing a Whole30 for a while now (if you don’t know what a Whole30, check this website out!). Basically, it’s a much stricter than Paleo diet, made to last for 30 days. Once the 30 days are over, your body has “reset” itself. You’re not supposed to feel as many sugar cravings (definitely needed for this girl!), and most people feel so much better at the end that they don’t want to go back to their old eating habits!

So I started looking into the program about a month ago. After doing some research, I decided to try it, but with a different view. I wanted to dedicate this into more of a fast for God, in about the same way that those who do the Daniel Fast do.

“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.”  –1 Corinthians 3: 16-17 (NIV)

I think in our daily lives, we forget verses like these. Yes, it covers a lot of things, but food isn’t one we typically associate with this verse. However, if you constantly give in to unhealthy food cravings, like I would do with Cokes, or even just over-indulge in what are considered “healthy foods”, you are destroying God’s temple.

“Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things.”  –Philippians 3: 19 (NIV)

We must break free of earthly cravings and habits in order to live a Godly life. I know I have a long way to go, and you may too. But with God, nothing is impossible!

If anyone wants to join me on the Whole30 journey, let me know! I’d love to hear how you’re doing and give you some encouragement along the way 🙂

The Greatest Command

Hey guys! I know it’s been a while…college has started to get the best of me. All of my professors tried to cram everything in before break. But, it’s finally Spring Break, and I couldn’t be any happier to be home!

Following Your Heart

I don’t know about y’all, but growing up, church and religion always seemed like a set of morals and rules we had to follow. If we did the things the bible said, we’d be saved by grace and go to heaven. So for many years, that’s how I lived my life. I went to church, I didn’t cuss, I loved my neighbor…

However, something happened my freshman year of college. A friend asked me to go to a bible study with her one Tuesday night. That night, they talked about how being a Christian isn’t about obeying rules. It’s about living a life, on fire for the Lord. If our hearts are set on Jesus, then we don’t have to try to follow a set of rules. We want to. We want to please God by doing what is right.

After that night, I started really digging deeper into the bible. I had always had some trouble with the, “which church is the correct church?” question, and I wanted to understand better God’s message. Eventually, He showed me Romans 14. There are several great lessons in this book (I’ll make another post or two about those sometime down the road), but today, I’ll focus on just one.

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval.

Romans 14:17-18

The kingdom of God is a matter of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit…that is powerful. Yes, righteousness through grace is important. But it’s also just as important that we live for Him with peace and joy in our hearts.

Isaiah 2913

This verse also popped out at me during my studies. Our obedience of the Lord is nothing if we don’t love Him. Works without faith are nothing.

As a challenge to you this week, try thinking about your motives for everything you do. Are you doing it out of love for God, or something else? It’s tough. It might even drive you crazy for the first little while. But in the end, it’s worth it.

I hope this post has touched at least one of you. I know it helped me studying to write about it. If y’all have any questions, comments, concerns, etc., please let me know!

In Christian Love,

Callie

New Beginnings

I want to start out by saying that I’m not perfect. Shocker, right? We know that each and every one of us has struggles. Sometimes we fall. Sometimes it can take a long time to get back up. But I know that my God is strong. His grace covers all of my imperfections. And because of Him, I’m able to have my past wiped clean.

Romans 6:4

Often times, however, we seem to forget the 3 verses before this one.

“What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

— Romans 6:1-4

Not to say that our sins aren’t forgiven. Far from it. However, I know that I’m guilty of repeating a sin multiple times. Sometimes it’s a mistake, sometimes we fall into devil’s trap, knowing God’s grace will cover it all up later.

My prayer for you and me today is that we can fight off the devil’s temptations and have a new life, full of Christ.

With love,

Callie
